Frequently Asked Questions
What is Summit Scanner?
Summit Scanner is an independent platform that helps climbers and trekkers understand
major mountains and routes, see typical expedition duration and difficulty, and discover
guiding companies that operate on each peak.
Is Summit Scanner free to use?
Yes. Using Summit Scanner to browse mountains, view indicative cost ranges and see which
companies operate on each peak is completely free.
Do you run or sell expeditions?
No. Summit Scanner does not run trips, sell packages or handle bookings. All expeditions
are run by external guiding companies that you contact directly via their own websites.
How do I book a trip I find on Summit Scanner?
Once you see a guiding company that interests you on a mountain page, follow their link
to their official website. Any enquiries, bookings and payments are handled directly
between you and the company.
Does Summit Scanner show exact expedition prices?
No. Summit Scanner does not list individual provider prices. Instead, we
show an indicative lower and upper cost estimate for each mountain to
help you understand a typical budget range. Exact pricing depends on the guiding company,
season, group size and inclusions, and is only available from the providers themselves.
How are guiding companies chosen or listed?
Guiding companies can request to be listed and must meet baseline standards around
experience, reputation and the type of expeditions they run. We aim to give fair,
structured visibility rather than promote any single operator.
Does Summit Scanner verify guiding companies?
We review available information such as operational history and public reputation, but we
do not act as a certifying body. You should always carry out your own research and ask
detailed questions before committing to any expedition.
Which mountains and treks are included?
Summit Scanner focuses on major expedition peaks and classic trekking routes worldwide,
including famous objectives such as the Seven Summits, 8000-metre peaks, and iconic
treks like Everest Base Camp, K2 Base Camp and the Annapurna region.
Where do your indicative cost ranges come from?
Indicative lower and upper cost estimates are based on publicly available information and
typical market rates for each mountain or route. They are designed to provide a planning
benchmark, not an exact quote.
Is Summit Scanner responsible for expedition safety?
No. All safety, risk management and on-mountain decision-making are the responsibility of
the guiding company you choose. Summit Scanner is an information and discovery tool only.
Do you provide insurance or equipment?
Summit Scanner does not sell insurance, gear or rentals. We strongly recommend appropriate
adventure travel insurance and thorough preparation for altitude, weather and technical
requirements before committing to any expedition.
How does the search and filtering work?
You can search for a specific mountain or browse via the side menu. On multi-result pages,
filters help you narrow options by continent, height, indicative cost range and typical
time required, so you can quickly focus on routes that fit your objectives and schedule.
What is the “Leader of the Week” section?
The Leader of the Week highlights a guiding company with standout programs or a notable
track record on certain mountains. It is a way to spotlight operators doing interesting
work in the expedition space.
How can I contact Summit Scanner?
